Deaths by suicide have increased steadily, from 93,336 in a three-year span of 2001, 2002 and 2003, to 127,536 in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The suicide rate in the U.S. increased from 13 percent to 15 percent per 100,000 population in the same time frame, according to an October 2017 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
